You may choose to charge using solely the excess solar power produced at your property, or through Boost Mode. Boost Mode prioritises the use of solar energy whilst charging your EV, and when the solar energy is insufficient, it is able to simultaneously charge your EV with the present solar energy omitted, as well as use power from the Grid.
The Solar mode will detect when surplus solar energy is available at your home to meet the minimum requirements needed to charge your car. That’s when your EV will begin charging, meaning every charge is 100% green.
The Boost Mode Prioritizes the use of solar energy when it is not being used anywhere at home. And when solar energy is insufficient, it takes the power from the Grid at the same time.
**NOTE**
Smart Meter checks the total active power, L1+L2+L3, so if the sum of all the phases is over the required power, it will start a charge, regardless of whether the system is balanced. This is to ensure that the surplus of power is used.
Boost Mode: The power needed is 2A per phase, or 6A (total sum of L1+L2+L3).
Solar Mode: The charge starts if the surpluses are equal to 3x7A (5040W) or more as this is the lowest charging current of a three-phase vehicle.
What does ‘Solar optimised’ mean?
It means that the charger comes with a CT meter or smart meter that measures the excess solar power that is going to be exported back to the grid. The meter communicates with the charger to use this power for solar-only or green-only charging.
What is the difference between solar-optimised and non-solar-optimised?
The solar-optimised units come with a CT Meter that allows you to activate the solar-only charging option when you have enough surplus to power your charger. On the other hand, the non-solar optimised unit is a smart charger that works with standard household electrical systems, allowing it to utilise any solar power that is generated (if you have any solar system in place) just like any other household appliance. It will make use of whatever solar energy is available and draw the remaining power required from the grid.
Would this be appropriate for properties with a Single-Phase or Three-Phase electrical system?
This primarily corresponds with Three-phase properties.

How long will this charging unit take to charge an EV?
This question has a number of factors to take into consideration to give a precise answer, but in the most average of situations in which the house has a 22-phase power supply, the following charging units would be capable to omit:
Note: This is in no way a precise chart and is ultimately a rough guide as battery size and EV On-Board Controller has not been taken into account.
